
A slip on flange,commonly known as SO flange,is a lightweight and widely used forged pipe flange in industrial piping systems.It features a flat circular body with a large inner bore that allows the end of the steel pipe to slide directly into the inner hole of the flange.After positioning,two external fillet welds are carried out respectively on both inner and outer sides of the joint to fasten the flange firmly onto the pipeline.This simple welding method greatly simplifies on-site construction and positioning work compared with weld neck flanges.
Manufactured following ASME B16.5 international piping standards,slip on flanges are available in abundant pressure ratings including Class 150,300,600 and 900.They cover comprehensive NPS size ranges and are compatible with most common industrial steel pipes.Standard flange face types contain Raised Face(RF),Flat Face(FF)and Ring Type Joint(RTJ),matching various gaskets and counterpart flanges perfectly.The uniform bolt hole arrangement ensures stable bolt connection and effective sealing performance.
Common materials consist of carbon steel A105,stainless steel F304,F316,alloy steel and duplex steel.With simple structure and moderate mechanical strength,slip on flanges adapt to ordinary medium temperature,medium pressure and general corrosive working conditions.Without a long tapered neck,it has lower production cost and better economy.Meanwhile,the straight internal passage maintains smooth fluid flow and reduces unnecessary flow resistance inside pipelines.
Compared with weld neck,socket weld,threaded and blind flanges,slip on flanges own obvious advantages in convenient installation,easy alignment and flexible construction.They do not require precise pipe end preparation and full penetration welding,which saves construction time and welding cost.However,they are not suitable for extremely high temperature,ultra-high pressure and severe cyclic load conditions.
