Medium Frequency Induction Bend, also known as hot-formed pipe bend,is a high-performance pipeline fitting widely used in industrial systems. It is specifically manufactured by the medium-frequency induction heating method:seamless steel pipes are heated to their plastic deformation temperature through medium-frequency induction coils, then bent into preset angles and radii under precise mechanical control.Unlike cold bending pipes processed at room temperature, medium frequency induction bends maintain excellent material integrity and mechanical properties, making them ideal for harsh working conditions involving high temperature, high pressure, and corrosive media.

The manufacturing process of medium frequency induction bend involves several key steps to ensure product quality and precision.First, the seamless steel pipe is carefully inspected to meet the required material standards, such as API 5L,ASME B16.49,or EN 10210.Then,the pipe is locally heated by medium-frequency induction coils to a temperature range of 850°C to 1100°C—the optimal plastic zone for carbon steel and alloy steel.Advanced temperature control systems are adopted during heating to maintain uniform temperature distribution, avoiding overheating or uneven heating that could damage the pipe’s structure.

After reaching the desired temperature, the pipe is bent by specialized machinery with controlled force and speed. The bending radius can be customized according to project requirements, usually ranging from 3D to 10D(D refers to the nominal diameter of the pipe),ensuring a smooth arc transition.Once bending is completed, the pipe is immediately cooled by water quenching or air cooling to stabilize its shape and enhance mechanical strength.Post-processing steps such as heat treatment are often carried out to eliminate internal stress, further improving the pipe’s toughness and anti-fatigue performance.

Compared with cold bending pipes and standard stamped elbows, medium frequency induction bends have distinct advantages. They feature an integral seamless structure without welding seams on the curved part, which greatly reduces leakage risks and improves anti-corrosion and anti-fatigue capabilities. The smooth arc design minimizes fluid resistance, reduces pressure loss and media erosion, making them suitable for long-distance fluid transmission.Additionally, they can be produced in large diameters(DN500 and above),which is difficult to achieve with cold bending technology.

Medium frequency induction bends are extensively applied in various industrial fields, including long-distance oil and gas transmission pipelines, thermal power plants, petrochemical plants, municipal heating networks, and marine engineering. They are particularly suitable for pipelines transporting high-temperature steam, crude oil, natural gas,and corrosive chemicals.Adhering to international industry standards, these bends ensure reliable operation and long service life, playing a crucial role in maintaining the stability and safety of industrial pipeline systems.
